The Perfect Place For A Holiday
Whether you want a straightforward Italian skiing holiday or something even more adventurous I have the perfect place for you.
The Italian region of Piedmont is the Italian and European mecca for adventure holidays. The Gran Paradiso National Park is Italy's biggest wildlife area and great for those who like the great outdoors. Here and in the surrounding area you will find some of the best Italian whitewater rafting, excellent hiking and some fantastic climbing. Sometimes all the mountain goats watching you can be a little distracting and the scenery makes one think of Heidi but despite that it is glorious.
If mountains are your thing then Piedmont is paradise. The best skiing, mountain climbing, cross country skiing, snowboarding and ice climbing in all of Europe can be found here. With some of the highest peaks in Europe Piedmont is a must.
Those who are less adventure holiday inclined will find that Piedmont offers much more too. Italy's best wine route is in Piedmont, many gorgeous medieval towns perched on hilltops are just waiting to be explored and 10th century castles and monasteries abound. Don't miss the castle where they kept the man in the iron mask - a very scary place indeed. Then there is the food - mouthwatering!
The lakes are my favourite part of Piedmont though. Not the biggest lakes in Italy but the most beautiful. The two most famous are Lake Orta and Lake Maggiore but there are many more. Surrounded by lush mountain peaks and dotted with little islands and their ancient villages these lakes are really magical.
