Gift Wine Basket - Make Your Own And Make It Special
A gift wine basket is much appreciated any day of the year. Think how delighted you would be if one was delivered to your door - especially if it was a surprise!
However, the most popular time for all kinds of basket gift is Christmas. And in most people's eyes, wine makes a basket gift extra special and just adds that touch of excitement and glamor.
If you decide to give a gift wine basket, you can either buy a ready-made up basket, or you can make one up yourself. If your recipient is at a distance, it's obviously easier to have one made up and sent by a professional company. Some of them will allow you to choose what goes into the basket.
If you will be delivering the gift wine basket in person, you have the option of making one up yourself. This could be preferable - for one thing, it's much less expensive. And for another, you can tailor it exactly to what the recipient likes, making it a really personal gift.
So if this is what you want to do, start by looking in the stores for a wicker basket - a shopping basket with a handle is perfect. Then you have to decide on the contents.
- First, choose a theme for your basket. This isn't essential, but it makes your gift more original and special. For instance, if the recipient loves everything French, make it a French basket. If he or she loves cooking, make it a gourmet cookery basket, and so on. Or simply make it a "wine lover's basket"!
- Put something in the bottom to "cushion" the contents, such as shredded cellophane.
- Choose two good quality bottles of wine - usually one red and one white, unless you know the recipient doesn't like one or the other. Of course, if it's a French basket it will be French wine, if it's an Italian basket it will be Italian wine and so on.
- Add other suitable gifts according to the theme of the basket. These could be French or Italian cheeses, meats and other gourmet foods, cooking essences, herbs and sauces, or wine accessories and a wine book.
- It's nice to add chocolates, fruit or flowers for that extra special touch.
- Arrange the items to look as attractive as possible, with the wine bottles in a central position. Wrap the basket in high quality cellophane and tie the top. Finish it off with a big Christmassy bow or other Christmassy decoration.
Of course there are plenty of other ideas for your gift wine basket. You could make it a champagne basket with just champagne and chocolates. Or an All-American basket with American wines and cookies! Just use your imagination and think what will give most pleasure. You can't fail to make a success of your gift
