If you're trying to come up with an Italian kitchen design, here are some things you should bare in mind.

A lot of people are attracted to Italian kitchens and not just because of the clean lines and sleek surfaces. More often than not what draws a lot of people to these principles of kitchen design is that they're predominantly family orientated and have a warm, homely ambiance. This is certainly something that should underlie your design.

Italian kitchens are designed to be bright and airy and as such you should try to incorporate as much natural light into your design as possible. Your colour scheme should also be warm, but subtle and create an inviting atmosphere.

In keeping with the 'families cook together' theme, you'll want to ensure you leave as much space as possible between surfaces and appliances to ensure there's room for everyone. Not many Italian kitchens are tight and suffocating, so do the best you can with the space you have.

Well structured kitchens also have space left empty for the sole purpose of chopping vegetables and meat. It's worth remembering that when you're designing an Italian style kitchen, it should be functional and not just easy on the eye.

If you want to be a hundred per cent authentic with your Italian Kitchen Design (and can afford it), try to use marble for your surfaces to really set off your design. You'll find that combined with the colour scheme and natural lighting, you get something quite striking with the finish.

It's really worth taking the time to sit down and plan out your design with any kitchen, but perhaps even more so with Italian kitchens. Don't just think about all those authentic Italian pots and pans, but consider how you're going to create an authentic family atmosphere. If you take these steps, you won't go far wrong.
